It's not really that people stop showing, I suppose that's just when people tend to consider that dog "less-competitive." I see that a lot of people tend to get puppies when their older dog(s) are around 3-4, meaning that by the time that puppy is showing their older dog is probably 6-7 and gets "replaced" as the main competition dog. Maybe it does have to do with the area. I think in general I'm in a pretty competitive area of showing. The people I train with definitely don't have this mentality though.
