When things break
Aug. 30th, 2010 04:54 pmPanic's dogwalk has been broken for the last couple of months. At pretty much every show it has been quite bad. This completely and totally freaked me out. I didn't know what to do. If the weave poles or start lines or pretty much any other agility behavior breaks, I know how to fix it. The dogwalk? I have no idea what to do unless I go back and completely retrain it.
A common thread I see about the running dogwalk is that it seems like the more you work on it, the LESS they get it. The more I worked on it, the more Panic was SURE that the behavior was either 1. Run as fast as you can and leap off the end or 2. go as SLOW as you can and trot down the board. But I didn't just want to ignore the issue because I didn't want him to rehearse a slow or incorrect behavior and we aren't at a point where I want to take an agility break all together.
Anyway, the point of all that is Panic's dogwalk is back in full force. And I don't know why. Maybe it was something I did? Probably not...
Mostly I feel like, in agility, every behavior they learn has to break down at one point or another. This is certainly true of Panic at least. Every agility related bit of info has completely left his little brain at one point or another. Early in his dogwalk training I figured that it would break down at one point, I guess I just forgot since he did so well for such a long time. Anyway, it's been gone and back again and I guess it just happens like that sometimes.
