Nov. 22nd, 2011 03:54 pmI gave a speech about Breed Specific Legislation in my public speaking class today. Last speech of the year, so I'm totally done in that class! I think it well and I'm glad I decided on that topic. After my speech one of my friends said to me "I have only ever heard negative things about pit bulls until your speech." So I hope he took some of the things I said to heart and that a few people got a few things out of it. It is an incredibly broad and complicated issue to talk about in eight minutes, so it was pretty general. I don't consider myself an activist, but it is an issue that directly effects me and my dog (and my future dog[s]) so any little thing I can do is nice.

I am still wondering what USDAA will do to further combat the BSL issue. So far they have done a great job responding to the public about the issues surrounding next year's nationals (weather, length of time, and the overall schedule) so I am cautiously optimistic. Not sure what else they can really do, but I'm glad they at least acknowledged it as a real issue and promise more specifics in the future.I still wonder if it is something they considered beforehand. The site seems absolutely amazing other than that. I honestly really want to go, but for many reasons (including that one) I probably won't.
