Nationals Day 4

Never got a chance to post last night.


We ran Steeplechase Semifinals yesterday morning around 11:45, which was a LOT better than running at 5:30 after walking at 8:30!

Panic knocked the third bar, which was a triple that came before a very sharp turn (I did a lead out push there, which is probably why he knocked it). After that I just decided to push as hard as I could which resulted in a totally brain fry. The rest of our run was not smooth at all and all my pushing pushed him right into the off course tunnel discrimination.

After this run I was very disappointed, not because we didn't make it or even run clean, but just because of the level of inconsistency we still have. To go from running so amazingly one day to this run kind of upset me. Admittedly I amplified the extent of the mistakes in this run which I was thinking of as a total disaster. I'm a person that tends to do that in any case, I am very internally dramatic about things that go wrong. It really wasn't that bad at all, sometimes it can be hard to see past that, especially in such a high pressure situation.


In reality however, Panic did better than I even could have expected. I honestly can't believe my crazy crazy boy did this well. I think about the first few months I had him, the first shows we went to, the absolute destruction he wreaked at home and on course, the problem after problem that came up, and I am amazed. I guess sometimes I think that, for his age, we aren't as far along as I would hope, but I've only had Panic for half of his life. He has a long history without me, a history I will never know, and entire life I don't have a clue about and wasn't a part of, and I know it took him a very long time to let me into his world.


Finals tonight, very excited to get to see them in person and cheer on all the awesome teams out there!

That was a fine run. I think you were distracted by the woman in the next ring screaming ROCKET or whatever she was screaming;)

It's really hard to run at a major event that has multiple steps to getting into the finals and to be able to hold your head together if something doesn't go as planned. You did a great job. They are long days with very few runs... so you're emotionally invested the *entire* day and then you run. Whatever the outcome everyone is bound to have a reaction. I usually bawl my eyes out after a major run but I think of it as an emotional explosion. :-)

Be proud of how far you have come and how hard you've worked to get there. It's hard not to feel disappointed but you shouldn't let it last too long. Be disappointed but then put your chin up. Panic doesn't really know that he knocked a a bar and that was that, but he knows he loves you :-)
