Home

I'm home for Winter Break and it is so nice. Yes, this time as opposed to my other breaks this semester I really and truly feel home. Such a great feeling that I haven't felt in a long time. I'm looking forward to being busy with work and obsessively crafting. And wow, lucky me, I got into one day of the random draw of a three day show! I'll take what I can get I suppose.

Panic was briefly happy I was home, then wondered when the fun things would start happening.

Luckily for him I got home in time to jump into an agility class. First time since September that I did any agility. It was so great to be back at it. Panic was absolutely perfect, not a step out of place. He just absolutely amazes me. Lots of rust to get off on my part but he was just great. I, like Tammy, don't think a 6 or 7 year old agility dog is old. I think if we were training and showing regularly Panic would be at his best right now. He's just discovered his brain in the last few years. He is a good boy. Very forgiving and understanding.

Thank you!

6 or 7 seems just about right for their prime. It blows my mind that for some dogs that's old age. Arya's going on 9 and I'm still in denial she's old!

It seems more common for agility people to consider a dog that age past their prime--although I also got an email from my vet saying that Panic was considered a senior! No way! Maxie is 14 and we've just started admitting she's old!

Interesting! Both here in TN and in WA most people seem to run them as long as they're happy to go. One lady we practice with has a 10 and 12 year old she only just took to preferred because she wasn't making excellent course times.

But then, neither group I train with is super competitive.

It's not really that people stop showing, I suppose that's just when people tend to consider that dog "less-competitive." I see that a lot of people tend to get puppies when their older dog(s) are around 3-4, meaning that by the time that puppy is showing their older dog is probably 6-7 and gets "replaced" as the main competition dog. Maybe it does have to do with the area. I think in general I'm in a pretty competitive area of showing. The people I train with definitely don't have this mentality though.

He's blending into the chair, you're not supposed to notice him!

Sounds like you are in a good spot.  Hopefully we will get lots of updates since you are home. Panic!

Thanks! I've gotten into a habit of NOT updating so hopefully I can break out of it.
