Final Sculpture

This was my final sculpture for class. I don't think photos do it justice, but suffice to say that it took me an extremely long time. I have a lot of respect for birds now. It's entirely made of sticks and a small amount of fabric, nothing else holding it together and it ended up being quite sturdy! It's about 8 feet long and 2 feet high.







A couple days after I put it up I completely destroyed it and tossed the remains into the woods. That is the sad reality of sculpture sometimes, although honestly I can't say I felt sad about it. All about the process.

I'm taking the next level of sculpture in the spring, so I'm really looking forward to delving further into the medium. I even get to weld!

I like organic sculptures -- Mother Nature has so much beauty and then the artist adds the flair. This is a striking collaboration between you and Nature.

I have absolutely no understanding of art beyond that I know what I like. What were you representing? (I hope that isn't a stupid or mean question -- to this day I only know that the river in Tom Sawyer represents life because somebody told me that it did. I am a nerdy engineer.)

I was just following our project prompt, which was to create a habitat for an "unknown tenant". My class had a lot of different ideas about who could occupy this space and I'm not really sure myself, I just wanted to create something very organic and nest-like, which you clearly picked up on so mission accomplished!

Oh, I was so close! From the last photo, I thought mummy-type sleeping bag which is basically a cozy nest. Or else a kayak (due to the top hole). You made the art connection with me - congrats!
