Distance Education

I've never done much work with tricks at a distance with Panic, but for the sake of cute photos I've been working on it since I've gotten home.

I remember when I first got Panic, he couldn't sit up at all, just fall over into a big heap if he tried. He was very much a two-year-old puppy. He's no Bright, that's for sure. Still pretty cute.

I've been baking a lot of bread this summer. I've never been good at baking, in fact I think it's safe to say I've been notoriously bad at baking (anyone remember my gingerbread house?), but the bread is going well. I mean, it only has five ingredients. This past semester, I took a class about on the food system in the US which served to leave me disgusted with most store-bought food. It was a probably the best class I've ever taken, but at the same time eating sure was easier when I wasn't scrutinizing the ingredients of everything. It's funny that I was much more aware of what was in my dogs' food than my own food. Particularly things like bread. I LOVE BREAD. Bread, such a simple thing, right? So many unpronounceable things in store-bought bread. But home-made bread is so much better! Except for the kneading, that's quite a workout.

Mmmm Bread-and pumpkin butter! I just discovered this stuff, why didn't I know about it sooner??

Yes! I definitely need one. I want to make sure that my desire to bake bread isn't just a passing phase before I invest, but I really am enjoying it and I've only made one type of bread so far!

Check Craigslist too. Often people opt for a new color, or bigger size and then unload their old one. I "think" I still have the one I got in 1991, but I've been saving it to give to Alli when she gets her own place. IF she gets her own place... ;)

Why do all of Heathers dog's stand and sit up so well? How?

I'm thinking there's got to be some invisible string on their heads holding them up in those photos. Only explanation that seems plausible.

I've only made basic wheat bread so far...I think eventually I will branch out but I want to perfect this before I try anything more complicated. I tried out a few recipes but I landed on this one which I really like: http://www.anoregoncottage.com/whole-wheat-sandwich-bread-101/

I use coconut oil instead of vegetable oil and I let it rise for close to two hours, but I guess that all depends on weather and stuff.

Bread is fun to bake, love it. I am new to the yeast world, but have enjoyed it.

I've enjoyed it as well. Definitely a learning curve in terms of how long it needs to rise and how much to knead it it seems, but I've really been enjoying it!

It is seriously fun. I'm going to try to branch out to different types of bread soon, I'd love to try making sourdough!
