More boards
May. 9th, 2009 11:00 amTwo separate sessions, a few days, maybe a week, apart.
What a freakin' brilliant dog. I'm very happy with how he's doing. He has a high success rate, but even when he doesn't meet my criteria he still always hits the contact. He hasn't completely bailed off before the yellow in a long time....I'm starting to work on turning with him. In some parts you can see there is a pole at the end of the contact. As the turns I do with him get sharper, I want to have that there to encourage him to run to the end of the board and wrap around the pole.
I'm also seriously considering building a dogwalk. I was looking at some online, but I drew up some plans and figure that I could very easily build a base for one at under 100 dollars. Having just a board is fine, but I feel like he needs more training on a full length dogwalk if I'm seriously going to do this running contact stuff. If I had regular access to a dogwalk I would be fine, but I only get to use one once a week at class, and it is a group handling class so I can't spend my time there working on the dogwalk with him. I'm glad my mom has such a big yard, especially for our area. There is easily enough room for a full set of agility equipment, although I only have 4 mini-jumps, a pop up tunnel, weave poles and a teeter. I don't really plan on trying to get a full set out there; I really don't need it.
