Indiana Collie Club AKC Trial, Oct. 3-4
Oct. 4th, 2009 09:55 pmI need to write about this while it is still fresh in my mind. First off, it was a very nicely run trial. It was one ring, held at Pawsitive Partners Agility Center in Indianapolis. Everything moved along really quickly; courses were built lickity split and the show was done by 4 each day. It helped that it was a very small trial. The judge, Laura English, was super nice and built fun and interesting courses with perfect straight on approaches to all the contacts. You could tell she really enjoyed what she was doing and took everything with a great sense of humor. I really enjoyed showing under her.
Alright, before this trial I had absolutely no goals for Panic. I thought we were due for a "crazy trial". (Althought in the back of my mind I was hoping for that illusive Open Standard Q!) I mainly had goals for myself as a handler. I'm happy to say this was our best trial yet. We came away with 3/4 Qs and our OAJ! Panic did awesome all weekend, and (for the most part) I felt like I handled him really well.
Saturdays Standard was awesome. Perfect contacts (albeit a freakin' terrifying a-frame performance) and overall just a really nice run. He spun at a pinwheel towards the end for reasons I still can't figure out. JWW Saturday was by far my favorite run of the weekend, even with a refusal at the weaves. I handled it really aggressively and got in a burn-rubber front cross. Also in the was a nice lateral send, a beatiful forward send and a perfect push!
Sunday's Standard was our only NQ of the weekend. He had a refusal at the tire that was 100% my fault. I need to remember my VERBALS. I rarely talk on course, which ordinarily is a good thing but sometimes costs us stupid mistakes. That followed by silliness on his part at the weaves results in an NQ, but it was otherwise an awesome run with a push off the a-frame I am especially proud of.
Sunday's JWW (his OAJ run) was our only completely mistakes free run of the weekend. Abmittedly I ran it very very conservitively. I wanted that Q, I really really did! I wanted out of Open jumpers!! Consequently this was my least favorite run of the weekend. I was being so careful. It didn't help that it was a rather dull course of pinwheel after pinwheel after pinwheel...At least I know that I have the ability to change my running style. Excellent here we come! He still needs two more Standards Qs for his OA.
