Who's got an iPad? Worth it? I was initially interested in it for textbooks.

I have the original one and it is the best investment I have made in a long time. I love it!

Love mine. I've had it 7 months and have used it every day.

I have one - just for textbooks. I like it for that reason inky, otherwise I don't like it/don't use it.

Elaborating! I'm going to elaborate on CourseSmart.com as that is the only site I have used so far.

Pros:
-Cheaper books. Usually $40-$60/book.
-Portable. I can carry 10 textbooks around at what time? What?!
-You can use your books on any device you can access them on ex: Computer, iPhone, iPad, Droid, your Uncle's computer, your Mom's computer, your roomies computer.
-Highlighting/notes function
-Good for 6 months when you buy a book, you don't have to return it, sell it, burn it.

Cons:
-the screen will dull when it's "inactive" or rather, while you're reading.
-requires some self control... ohhhhh... while I'm clicking let me just check my e-mail!
-Some Profs don't understand it and think you're browsing the internet. I guess a con then be once you show them it's a book you really can browse the internet and look intrigued by their lectures.
-other students still think it's a little weird.
-The highlighting and notes only work on ONE device - so when you go to access them on another device they aren't there.
-Won't work if you're offline - you have to download the pages you want ahead of time if you are going to be using your iPad offline.

My iPad paid for itself in one semester. Two of my books were almost $400/each. You get some pride in knowing you are getting something for what it's really worth, not being scammed by the textbook scammers!

Have you ever had a prof that just didn't allow it? Going into school some people have said that some profs plain don't allow laptops so I'm worried about getting all my books digitally and then not being allowed to use one of them.

Yes and I am a bit worried about coming across as that snobby iPad kid. But in the end I know this is going to be a lot cheaper for me!
